#USA The U.S. Department of Defense has authorized an additional $52.3 million for L3Harris proximity fuzes designed to equip APKWS laser-guided rockets for counter-drone operations. This firm-fixed-price modification, announced by the U.S. Department of War, supplements a contract originally awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division to L3Harris Fuzing and Ordnance Systems in late May. The work, to be executed in Cincinnati, Ohio, is scheduled for completion by November 2027. The official notice does not specify the quantity of fuzes included in this funding. A proximity fuze detonates a warhead upon detecting a nearby target, thereby eliminating the need for a direct impact on small, fast-moving drones to ensure destruction. L3Harris designates this product as the Mechanical Proximity Fuze, or FALCO fuze, named after the Fixed Wing, Air Launched, Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Ordnance program.
